Red "Summon"
There are only 3 types of red envolope chinese people will get, that is the "Ang Pow" - which is money given out during Chinese New Year by the elders, the second one would be Chinee New Year Greeting Cards ... and the last would be the widely acknowledged red "summon"
Also known as the "red bomb" ... why they call it summon? coz u have to fork out money for Ang Pow - irregardless of ur attendance at the wedding dinner ... "yan mm tou, hoong pau yat ting yiu tou" - which in cantonese literally means "even if you are not coming, your Ang Pow must still be there" Sook Leng's wedding dinner is on the 19th of February ... Grace, Hui Wen, Chen Hong, Jack, Brad, Mary - please come and collect your "red summon"  this is her  stack of summon!  hmmm...  the summon is red in color  posted by earl-ku @ 1/21/2005 08:25:00 PM
