The Festival of Light
Ku could still remember clearly, it was 10 - 12 years ago, while he was still in primary school. It was a Deepavali celebration, he woke up really early that day and got dressed up and headed on to one of his hindu classmates house so that they could go visit their classmates together. Ku was greeted by his hindu friends parents. Ku would greet them and wish them Happy Deepavali. His parents are very kind and invited Ku for breakfast. They would served him idli and putu mayam. After the both of them were full, they were both given a small packet which contain some money like the chines equivalent of "angpau". They then begun their visits to other classmates and friends open houses.
Whenever we reached someones open house, we were were invited a another meal and and we would spent some time playing around and even light up a few firecrackers. It was a fun-filled day for Ku and his friends, the group would get bigger and bigger as they keep on visitig from house to house. All were joyous and happy as they are eating and playing all the time, not to mention the packet which contain money were given out at every hose they visit, what more can a 10 year old hope for besides all these? At the end of the day they would spent all their packets of money on food and some "tikam" at the grocery shop. And most impportantly they all went home happy, tired but happy! ***Happy Deepavali to all my fellow Hindu classmates and friends - Prem Prakash, Jegathesan, Kamleshan, Ram Prasad, Ramesh, Vijay Kumar, Prem Kumar, Prasath, Dharmaraja, Jeevanand, Kuna Soorian, Sharmini, Poonitha Devi, Sarina Malar, Brian Kumar, Sarawanan, Ananth, Sri Kumar, Vikneskumaran AND if I left out any please forgive me as I have not forgoten you, I just can't remember the names ... Its been great knowing you guys! and Happy Deepavali...
